About the author and these pages

Hello and welcome! These pages were set up due to my interest in vexillology (the study of flags) and heraldry (coats of arms). I'm also interested in History of which vexillology and especially heraldry can be considered as its auxilliary sciences.

From 2001 to 2011, I attempted to cover the flags and ranks of the pre-independence and post-independence period (Military & Paramilitary Flags & Ranks of Singapore). I started with the flags page around 2001. The pages were first hosted in the now defunct GeoCities (despite its many limitations, thank you GeoCities!). Requests came in to do up pages on other items such as ranks, badges, etc. I relented and did up the ranks page in 2004, which seems to be more popular than the flags page as reflected by the hit counts. Some information/updates are rather difficult to get as the organisations are not too open about even basic information for whatever reasons they may have. To those who helped and/or found the effort useful, I thank you for the support and encouragement. I have decided to only concentrate on the flags and ranks of the pre-independence period from end-November 2011 onwards.

Apart from vexillology and heraldry, I have always been interested in playing the piano but never had the opportunity to pursue it properly. There were the recorder lessons in school so that had to suffice for a while. Decided to try playing it properly (two hands) in 2010 and so got myself a simple keyboard.
